Ukraine promoted from Group C as one of the best teams in third place thanks to a 2-1 lead over North Macedonia between small losses to the Netherlands and Austria. It’s hard to fault Ukraine’s effort, while West Ham’s Andriy Yarmolenko and Roman Yaremchuk from Ghent are well matched in attack.

England were only skillful at the top of the Group D table, beating Croatia and the Czech Republic 1-0 on either side of a scoreless stalemate with Scotland. Early exchanges with Germany were predictably tight, with Raheem Sterling testing Manuel Neuer from long distance and Jordan Pickford doing well to deny Timo Werner.

However, the introduction of Jack Grealish in the second half helped open things up and he fueled Luke Shaw to cross over to Sterling to break the deadlock.

Thomas Muller lost a big chance to equalize, but there was no return for Germany after Harry Kane nodded to Grealish’s cross.
