Most players play on legalized gambling sites. These sites have received a license from the Belgian Gaming Commission and are regularly checked. Legal gambling sites must adhere to various rules, so you as a player are protected. In Belgium, a license from the Gaming Commission is required to be able to offer offline and online games of chance or betting.

Always Play Legally

The Gaming Commission started the campaign “Always Play Legally” to inform, raise awareness and prevent players. against games of chance without a license.

The campaign will run from April 26 to the start of the UEFA Euro 2021 tournament on June 11. New clips will be published every week until the start of EURO 2021.

The regulator said the aim of the campaign is to educate consumers about the difference between legal and illegal online gambling. Legal gambling sites must provide certain measures to protect players. The illegal gambling sites do not respect these rules.

Always gamble online legally

In order to publicize which operators in Belgium are licensed, the Always Play Legally logo will be used by operators who have received written authorization from the Commission.

The regulator said that an estimated 20% of gambling customers in Belgium end up playing with unlicensed rather than licensed operators, who are not subject to regular checks by the commission. The Gaming Commission regularly checks legal gambling sites. These checks are done on a random basis as well as after tips or complaints. In the event of violations of the Gaming and Betting Act, the Gaming Commission can initiate a sanction procedure against a legal gambling site.

The dangers of playing with unlicensed operators are “enormous,” said the regulator, as the sites have no player protections and there is no guarantee that winnings will be paid out. When gambling online on illegal gambling sites you are not protected as a player.

Control of illegal gambling sites

In the past year, the Gaming Commission has considerably increased its control of illegal gambling sites. Both organizers and players of illegal gambling sites can be sanctioned by the Gaming Commission. So be careful! At Place2bet.be you can only find legal casinos in Belgium.

We know that players are not always aware of the risks they run through the use of unlicensed operators, and that sometimes it is not clear to them whether the site they are using is legal. The Gaming Commission manages a black list of illegal gambling sites. These are gambling sites that do not have a license from the Gaming Commission to offer online games of chance or betting in Belgium.

In addition to using the Always Play Legally logo, the campaign will feature a number of video clips that provide answers to frequently asked questions from players about the difference between licensed and unlicensed operators, including the risks of playing with the latter.

The CJH said new clips will be released every week until the start of UEFA Euro 2021.

Last month, the regulator signed a Memorandum of Understanding with its Dutch counterpart, the Gaming Authority, in an agreement in which the two regulators will work closely together on, among other things, the protection of players and the fight against illegal gambling.
