Loss of 616 million euros with online and offline gambling

Belgians lose with games of chance. In 1 year, Belgians have lost more than 616 million euros in Belgian and online gaming rooms and casinos. In particular, young people are easier to play with their laptop or smartphone according to the Belgian Gaming Commission.

According to the most recent figures of 2015, Belgians paid 229.1 million euros in arcades, 206.5 million euros were betrayed in the gambling offices and 181 million euros were lost in the casinos. Especially the online providers are developing strongly according to the Belgian Gaming Commission. Casinos have more than doubled their Internet revenues, which already puts them at 40% of the total.

According to Etienne Morique, chairman of the Belgian Gaming Commission, Internet reduces the threshold and especially young players, because they are more familiar with a laptop or smartphone. They play more and the advertising is also specifically for young people. The gok sector is therefore focusing more and more on the internet.
The number of excluded players also increases according to statistics.

• 2014: 309 055 Belgians are no longer allowed to play.
• 2015: 328,882 Belgians are no longer allowed to play.
